Nom Tnout

My favorite snack ^^

Palm fruit when it become ripe. It will be falling down so we can gather all of them for making dessert or keep for long time to plant other palm tree.

This kind of snack is stem. We made it by put sticky rice power and palm fruit ripe water with palm sugar. On the snack you see the white color is coconut meal. We used banana leaf to pack it.

You can see the white power is made from sticky rice but now a day, they used it mix with normally rice. Because of sticky rice is expansive now.

Inside it, they normally use the same as other traditional cake. Slice of coconut meat cook with sugar and put a little bit sesame seed (for sugar if you can use palm sugar is very special delicious).

I met it during I visited Odong Mountain with my family. They said it a small part of palm tree. But I am not sure which exactly part of palm tree.

I also don't know the test because I did not buy it. Next time, when I meet again. I will eat it.

People sell it, they said it use as snack (But I don't know, it can cook or not. Because normally, some part of palm tree we can use for cooking).

Tamarind

There are two kinds of tamarind sweet and sour.

The sweet tamarind, we used as snack. But the sour tamarind, we used in food. Because in Cambodia sour soup we need to put sour vegetable to get sour test. Or sometime, we can eat with combination of salt, sugar and chilli. Most of our fruit is popular for pregnant women.

It has shape similar to bird's nest or ant's nest (ant which lives on the tree).

It made from sticky rice powder, sugar palm and coconut milk.

It is kind of fry snack and keep for long time in the plastic bag.

Grill Fish

It is the most delicious grill fish. If it live in the nature river or lake, their meat is very delicious with sweet taste. But now a day, there is difficult to find the nature one because demand is bigger than support so to be enough for everyday using, they need to raising fish.

We eat grill fish with mango salad. Put more red paper, red garlic and green garlic is too more delicious.

Cambodia Fish meatball

  
As you know, in Cambodia there are many rivers, Lake, and pond. In those of rivers or lakes, there are many kind of fish. Even Cambodian currency name it's also from the word of fish's name.

We used fish meat and mix with citronella spices. We fry it and eat with vegetable salad. In vegetable salad;  we put slice of papaya, cucumber, carrot and ginger with lemon juice a little bit.

This kind of food we can use meal time or can be for snack time.

 


Rice Field Crabs

 
 The crab shell;

In Cambodia, there are two kinds of crab. One kind is living in the rice field, and the other one is living in the sea. The crab lives in the rice field is small but the crab lives in the sea are small and big (with also many kinds of crabs).

This one is the crab which lived in the rice field. Additionally, there are many crabs on the raining season; during farmer did their rice farm. Small children like to caught that crab during raining; it's also make fun for those children.

I ever have experienced caught crab with my sister and relatives. Sometime if you go to rice during raining, you can easy find crab shelter. It look like hole go down to the land but you must be very careful because in those hole we are not sure that only the crab living. Basically, we noticed that in crab hole; there are always crab and snake.

Cambodian people could cook many kind of dish by using crab such as photo above. We just tear crab apart from crab shell and crab meat. In the crab shell has grease which we can mix with sugar, salt and some black pepper than grill it.

Beside crab shell, we still have crab meat/body. To add more tasty, we should roast crab meat/body. You just roast it with putting ingredient. Specially, when you add more green garlic and red pepper. Most of this dish we can use for food or snack. But in special case, we will eat with alcohol. They are the well match with each other.

Lotus Flower Decoration

I just saw it with beautiful decorate their leafs and it looks beautiful also. I have asked my mom, she said that there are many ways for decorate their leafs. I already posted Lotus flower with original shape. It kinda look beautiful with other side.Normally, Cambodian people will use this kind of style for praying to Buddhism.

Buddhism material

Our region is Buddhism which we obeyed from our ancestors. During Khmer New Year or Pchum Ben Day, we will bring that to the pagoda for pray to our late ancestors. Inside for commonly, there are Tea, Sugar, Candle, Incense Stick, Noodle, Water, and Milk. Beside that, we will put more cash. We believed that our ancestors will get those kind of thing through monk praying.

Nom A Koer

I really like Cambodian dessert. Our traditional cooking is very unique (I said like this because in Cambodia, all most everything we have and easy to find for making different food or dessert). This kind of dessert is also make from sticky rice. We steam it and after that put sesame seed with slide coconut meat.

Cambodia Dessert with Black Sticky Rice

It is very delicious Black sticky rice. Because Cambodia land is good for agriculture so many people doing rice farm. Within those rice farm, they also produce sticky rice for making Khmer Traditional Desert. It is one of all deserts which has been popular in Cambodia. We can make it from Black or White sticky rice. Just cooking it and keep in the hot weather around 2 or 3 day and put one kind of thing that made it became like wine. For smelling, it smells similar to wine specially white sticky rice. We will eat it with Coconut meat by slide coconut meat and put with. In Cambodian language, we called it "TroBaer".

Mostly, country side people they can make it well so after making it, they will come to city and selling at market or sometime with their bicycle on the road.

By my relatives and my mom told me about our ancestor. Before Por Pot Region, our grand mother was sell it. And she often bring it to Royal Palace for people there because they like it, also they name my grand mother is Yai Trobaer P'em "Sweet Trobaer Grandmother". After time passed, amount all of relatives at least 3 or 4 families can make it very delicious. I am also like it very much.

FLower

There are six leaf with one layer. It always have sweet smell during evening time. People like to put it one the bed or living room for making sweet smell. But Now a day, there is rarely to see this flower because they always plant it near the fence. At country side, also a few that have plant it.

Half Modern Cambodia Loom

In the past ancient, Cambodia people used this loom for making clothes for selling. And sometime after they made clothes, they will sell by them self or there are whole seller came to collect for selling in the market. Most of the famous province which made this clothes is Takeo Province. Most of the clothes is made from silk with use in traditional Khmer dress such as Pha Moung or Houl. It's can be use many color for mixing and use in different decoration for make it more beautiful. Usually, Cambodian women will use traditional dress for join wedding or big events. In some case they use during they went to Pagoda or Buddhism ceremony.

One more thing, they can making scarf for using in everyday or for being souvenir for someone. The good quality scarf is making from silk (in past ancient, only rich people who has ability to use product like clothes or scarf from silk. But for common people, they used only the normal one which made from cotton).
