Cambodia pagoda

Landscape look from Udong Mountain to pagoda. It look really like small plan for making building but actually when you arrive that pagoda, you will see the building is really big and cold wind from outside.

Cambodian King Funeral Monument

Cambodia Udong Mountain: Cambodian King funeral monument. There are many funeral monument on Udong Mountain and the decorate of each funeral monument is different. With this decoration when you look from the far place, this one is the most interesting but after you can see it close to other funeral monument, you will other funeral monument with decoration from glasses. And letter on each funeral monument, some I can read but some I also can't read. It seem like the Pali language.

Oh! last time when I visited there with my co-worker, they are foreigner so we guide them with some history of this place and when we arrive and small pagoda on the mountain we saw Buddha sit with snake with 8 heads behinds him; at this point they asked us about history and we describe that snake with 8 heads come to protect Buddha from anything, it's like umbrella for Buddha when the sun is sunny and also when there are raining come. But at that time, Cambodian people who come visited those place too when they heard that they laugh and they said snake with 8 heads become umbrella. In my thinking, I was wondering that they laugh because we said wrong story or they did not listen to us well. Naturally, by looking at their clothing and appearance look like they did not know English well that why made them confuse what we are mention about history. 

Purple water lily

Cambodian purple water lily. This one, we can use for food; Cambodian sour soup with fish. It's very delicious when you eat with chili fish sauce, or can be fry it with pork with a little bit pepper. But in the nature place, it is one of country side beautiful flower which blossom in the morning time till mid day.

Cambodian Lotus

Cambodian Lotus flower, it is not so big as Chinese lotus and has not many layer as Thailand lotus. But with that pink color inside when it blossom, it look really beautiful. Mostly, in every pagoda there are small pond full of lotus or water plant with fish inside.

Grasshopper and bird leaf

I have learn from my co-worker how to make bird from coconut leaf (the first photo). But now a day, I almost forgot how to make it. Maybe I should review it again. It's being fun when I went to my mom hometown and made it to share with my little relatives. They seem enjoyable with it. I spent whole morning to make for them and after that just play for a few hours then it broken because coconut is not strong enough so next time I will use palm leaf is good quality than coconut leaf.
And for grasshopper leaf (second photo) it made by my cousin, it is complicated to make it, and he said he forgot to make the head sharp, so his grasshopper became like that. ^0^

Chinese Flower

Normally flower for Chinese people during Chinese New Year. Near my house, there are a lot of Chinese and Vietnamese people living so almost every Chinese New Year, they bought this flower to decorate their house. And after finish new year, they will put this flower in front of their house, for some neighbor, they gave this to us so we just put it in front of our gate and now a day, they always blossom and look cute because they have two colors are yellow and dark red. 

Purple Flower

Now a day, I enjoyed taking picture so there are many flower that I have taken. And one of those flower is not big as in photo but it's smaller than we thought.Its side is the same as thumb or just a little bit bigger than thumb.

Flower for ceremony

 This two kinds of flowers, we use in two different celebration. The picture above we use in Buddhism ceremony such as the ceremony for people who pass a way.
And the picture below is for wedding ceremony. They use it during wedding in the morning time and after that it use like flower for blessing to new couple.

Pure smile

Pure smile from little girl. She smile from her heart without knowing anything from elders people a round her.

Wild Flower

20120909 I have joined my class party B4C5 at classmate's house Chamka Dong, near Phnom Penh city. At her house, there are a lot of wild flower and tree. It looks natural and warm but because today is a little bit hot, so even has a lot of trees, still the same (hot). And after finished eating, I started to look a round her house, and I met this Orkiday wild flower. It is pretty small than normal Orkiday flower. But there are other side that made you interest in it.

Yai Mao

This place we always stop when we go to Kompong Som Province. It is between Kompong Som and Phnom Penh. Because this place is the most deepest fissure in the mountain. Normally, this area is the most dangerous road to Kompong Som Province too.

Snake Island, Kompong Som, Cambodia

 This time is Snake Island. Because Cambodia sea is the most beautiful sea. So there are many place that make us interest such as this Snake Island, We can go there by boat or walk a long the bridge. But for this picture above is port when the boat delivery something. And also this place is deep so there are a lot of fish for catching. I had fun during I visited there. And also I have fishing too with my co-worker. But we care not expert so we can catch only a few small fish hahahaaaa....

This beach for playing. We cooked there, we went to market and bought crab, shrimp and vegetable for make our lunch at Snake Island. After finish lunch time, we were swimming and playing till 5:00pm then we back home with very exhausted body.

Dragon fruit, Pineapple and Banana

Dragon fruit, Pineapple and Banana. Naturally I don't like pineapple because it can make me sweat just only look at it. But I always eat it when it's in front of me. This dish is serve after we finish meal. But sometime when there are many customer, service provider also forgot to provide us.

Baykdang Flower

Finally that picture can be post, because my phone can't connect to computer so I can't take my photo out of the phone. This picture I took when I have family went for a walk. We went to museum. This flower is small, just the same side as our figure or a little bit bigger than our figure.
I like this picture the most because when I see it, I always feel fresh maybe I like nature the most^^

Kompleng Flower

Meet white flower again. This flower I met in front of Angkor Wat Temple when we take a rest. It look like wild flower. 

 Pring is one kind of fruit which it start has fruit on first of raining day in the season, commonly it will be on Khmer New Year or after Khmer New Year half month. Eating it with sugar and a little bit salt is very special. But after eating, your tongue will become purple color. And if you eat a lots, it will make your tongue become tasteless. 

Mango

 Very good~~~~ Mango is adult favorite snack which we always eat during break time at school or at home when we were doing something. When it's still green, we eat with pepper salt and put a little bit sugar. But after it's become yellow, we can it with dry fish and rice. Most of old people food during meal time is mango with dry fish because it's easy to chew. And for the mango which become yellow and drop from the tree we will make it to be preserves for keeping long time.

Snack

This one is for your boring time. Wow....for women who pregnant is good. And also for us who are not pregnant also good. Just kidding :D During we joined ceremony at pagoda, we always looking for this snack to make our mouth busy.

Frog grill

Oh~~~ ^0^ it is very delicious. In side the frog is pork. Grill or fry is the same thing. Just say only one word is delicious. Even I am not often eating it, but sometime also cook it. My older sister, she is really good at cooking so when she cook us frog fry, we always finish all the rice in the dish. Hahahaaaa....I think all Cambodian people, they know about this delicious food. But sometime it looks like human (also sometime make me think it is small human body?).

Cambodian Sausage

Cambodian sausage made from beef. For eating with pickle (papaya pickle or cucumber pickle) they chose sausage made from beef. And if you eat with rice, it is better to chose sausage made from pork. That little girl, she asked us to take a look on sausage because she said she wants to eat but actually because it's look strange so she just want to play only by putting it in order. The sausage above is not fry but grill.

Baby Duck Eggs

Baby Duck Eggs: My little sister favorite snack. When we went to hometown, she always asked me to eat it. So often we went there for eating. And specially, she like pepper salt with lemon mixing, it would be more delicious if you make the sauce by adding garlic with pepper. Next time I will post garlic with pepper which I make by my self.

Quail eggs

This picture I took it last year on Pchum Ben Day. Because of that day in my mom hometown has small boat match so around the river, there are a lot of venders selling many kind of food and sweet. When we walked around we saw they sell quail eggs and my niece, she wants eat it so we decided to buy it. Now a day, they also sell baby quail eggs. It has taste the same as baby duck egg.

Nom Slerk Sros

You can see this sweet, it is the same but the decorate is different. The one with banana leaf is Khmer style. And the other one with plastic cover is Vietnamese style. It would be have good smell and delicious when you keep it in ice box with jasmine. Cambodian people always use this kind of sweet during we have Buddhism ceremony at home to serve after finish the dish.  

Pig ear Vegetable

I heard that this plant is good for health. but I never taste it even it grow in my land. They cook it with pork (make soup). In my thinking, its appearance is look good but I seem don't want to eat it :D

Flowering Chives

Hmm....How can to describe this one. Just vegetable that we fry with pork or beef and with Tofu.

Tongyam

Somlor Tongyam

It is very delicious. And it has many meat if want. Crab or chicken or squid with spicy taste, it will make more delicious. My younger sister, she likes spicy food so when we cook Tongyam, she always add more chilly. Yummy^^

Sand Temple

It looks similar to Angkor Wat Temple.

Frog fry with vegetable

One of Cambodian food. Actually, foreigner does not like frog, and maybe some of them are afraid of frog too. But Cambodian people like it very much. There are many menu for cooking frog.

Nom Kom

Coconut

 Coconut is the basic ingredient in every Khmer sweet or snack. Cooking coconut with green bean and put sugar palm, we put it in side the sticky rice that already made into powder. Normally, we used banana leaf to package. You can see in order of the picture, and last picture is the final one that we cook it. Exactly, this kind of sweet, the way we cook is to steam it for one hour. Furthermore, this kind of sweet we make during Pchum Ben day to share with relatives who come visit our house.

Pchum Ben Day is the big day events because all relatives who live far a way from hometown. They need to travel back hometown to celebrate together with their family or relative. And this ceremony is celebrate for people who passed a way and become ghost in the hell.

Fruit Preserves

Papaya Preverse

It is kind of Khmer snack for using during October or December because that time is flood season and most of the plants was dead so we will keep all fruit which this way. The picture above is green papaya. We cut it and design like flower to make it look more delicious. It is sweet because final step for cooking, we boil it with sweet. Not only papaya that can make fruit preserve but other kind such as lemon, winter melon also can be.
If you want to taste it, you can come to Cambodia with harvest season. You will get it at country side.

Certain small aquatic plants or The water coconut: Because my father's favorite is fish feeding. In my house, we have a lot of fish (many kinds of fish). So we also put this water coconut in the water, it can make water cold when the weather is hot. One more thing, it is similar to flower and look beautiful so we can decorate it. Don't confuse the red flower is other flower tree, not including coconut plants.

One kind of Vegetable in Cambodia. It is also good for health. Cambodian people use to make green soup that mixing with many other vegetable or we can fry it with pork and egg. Sometime we steam it for eating with Cambodian Cheese (Brohok). Normally at country they like to plant it in their house land, which is easy for using in everyday food (it's fresh than buy from market). The way plant it, we just put seed in the dig land near trellis that used to support plants so after that they will be growing follow the trellis that we have built because they are vine plants. It start with yellow flower and than will become vegetable. Mostly, after it's mature, farmer will keep one a mount of them that have big fruit to keep for next time planting.

Soursop Flower

Soursop Fruit is a little bit difficult to plant it. It need to care start from small plant till getting fruit. If we plant natural without any training. We will get small fruit and with a little bit sour taste. But that is good quality because if you use too much fertilizer, the taste will being strange and tasteless. This flower content with two layers and 6 flowers leaf.

Bomb Flower

In small village, outskirt of the Phnom Penh City there are many place to visit. One a mount of them is my mom's hometown. We often visited in weekend or in special events like Khmer New Year or Pchum Ben day. So when we went to pagoda to celebrate ceremony. In that pagoda, there are many things interested me such as pagoda's history and environment around there. In southeast pagoda, there are many big tree, most of them is Bomb Flower Tree. First time I saw it, I asked my mom that why this flower is too big tree and the flower leaf also hard and thick. And she answered me because it has hard and thick flower leaf that why we call bomb flower. It was growing since very long time ago because my mom was born.
We can decorate it become like candle at night time but not so big fire. I will post next time with its whole part of the tree. 

One layer white flower

This kind of flower, I have seen at Svay Rieng Province in Cambodia. In early morning, when you get up you will see this flower blossom with rain drop on its leaf. It look so beautiful in the morning time. It has only one layer within yellow pin in the middle. I also have asked its name from villagers but they seem don't know too. But one day, I will post again about its name because sometime when you are interested in flower, why don't you want to know its name.

One layer Yellow Flower

Being have workshop with Co-worker where we went to Kep Province (Cambodia). We spent a value time together and sharing with each other about our feeling working together. Beside that we have gone to Rabbit Island which made me surprise because we need to spend at least half hour for travel to there by boat with big wave (we were very nervous). After across the sea we finally arrived at island safety. At night time, we had a wonderful party which we played game together to win small gift from Director.
In early morning, after we woke up, I found that sea side is very beautiful with sunrise. The forest behind our cottage was very beautiful with sunrise. 
With the great morning, we walked around the seaside.
From the cottage that we stayed to the other cottage is not too far we just spend a few minute to a cross this romance cottage. In front of each cottage, the owner have decorate their own style with many plant which make their place become more beautiful. Such as this yellow flower ( I don't know its' name). This flower is the big tree, I also wondering that this flower can produce any fruit when it's mature but when I look around there are nothing fruit with this flower tree. But it's was very natural beautiful tree that I have seen on Rabbit Island.

 When you stand back from the bridge, you will see the other side that make you feel very fresh. Even you spend just short time there but you can feel from those place the nature and very friendly people. In my thinking, Rabbit Island is suitable for you guys who want to get good vacation with the nature and romantic place for your family or friend.
